A 5K & 10K Trail Run to "Restore the Track"

The Sagebrush Stompers and Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Clubs are working hand-in-hand with TR4CK (Track Renovation 4 Community and Kids), a local non-profit organization determined to raise the necessary funds to restore the very first Tartan track in the United States which was used during the 1968 Men's Olympic Track and Field Trials at nearby Echo Summit.

Once the trials were completed in preparation for the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, the track was relocated to its present location at the South Tahoe Middle School. After years of harsh Sierra winters and a lack of maintenance funds this piece of Olympic history is in desperate need of renovation to keep it alive.

The 5K and 10K trail run that will be presented as a part of the 2004 RRCA National Convention will be a fund raiser to "Restore the Track. We're also working to have both coaching staff and athletes from the 1968 games join us for the event.
