Skunk Harbor is always worth the trip

Lower Prey Meadow

Skunk Harbor is always worth the trip On the way to Lower Prey

DESCRIPTION

Start out with a 1.5 mile downhill run to Skunk Harbor. You'll come to a fork in the trail about 1/2 a mile down. You'll return to the left trail later. A little trail to your right takes you to an old railway trestle that used to hug the cliff. Trains going up the incline railroad backed out on this trestle to make their turn. Return to the main trail and proceed down the center or main trail to Skunk Harbor. Once there, take time to rest a bit, look around at the historic Newhall House, and enjoy one of the prettiest "hidden" harbors at Tahoe. Your dog will love the chance to go for a swim and so will you.

Return up the trail take fork down to Lower Prey Meadows and Slaughterhouse Canyon. You are now on the rail bed so the trail has a very shallow, pleasant grade. The wildflowers in spring and summer are amazing! Once through Devils Gate and Slaughterhouse Canyon, you'll reach the outskirts of Glenbrook and can turn for the long run back up to your car. The total trip will be about 7-8 miles.
